Get the Jonathan Cohen Inspired NYFW Makeup Look | INIKA Organic | 01

Twice a year, the eyes of the fashion world are fixed on New York for NYFW. Just like the city itself, it’s always an exciting time filled with colourful characters and never-ending inspiration. In 2020, INIKA Organic was once again invited to NYFW as a 100% natural and vegan makeup brand to create the makeup looks for two major designers.

Here, our team gives you a peek into what it was like to partner with Jonathan Cohen and prep models for the catwalk with INIKA Organic Makeup.

The NYFW makeup artist

Jonathan called on legendary makeup artist Grace Ahn to turn his glittery vision into a reality. Chances are, you’ve seen her work splashed on runways, magazines and beauty blogs across the globe, from Vogue and Marie Claire to Women’s Wear Daily and Into The Gloss.

The inspiration behind the Jonathan Cohen look

This year, Jonathan sent models down the runway wearing a vibrant mix of prints and textiles. From flirty midi dresses to chunky boots studded with Swarovski crystals, it was the perfect combination of gritty-meets-pretty. And the designer kept the planet in mind too, with many of the pieces made from recycled nylon and other sustainable materials.

Inspired by this blur of colour and creativity, Grace set about creating a NYFW makeup look to match. She focused on a flawless base, then flashed back to the 60s with peachy cheeks, long lashes, strong brows, and pops of sparkly colour on the lids.

Grace said she was drawn to the pigments of INIKA’s products, and the range of shades to choose from.

"This season’s girl is effortless, stylish and loves to make an unconventional statement," she said.

"The collection has a collaboration with Swarovski and Dr Martens, so we were inspired by INIKA Organic’s range of colourful, shimmery pigments. Applying silver and cranberry metallics to the eyes in a graphic shape, with glowing skin and a shimmering lip stain."

The go-to makeup products

Between the long days, late nights and dashing from one show to the next, NYFW is a crazy, chaotic time of year for the models. Grace wanted to give the models that healthy, lit-from-within glow, while giving a nod to NYFW spring 2020 trends and making sure their look stayed put under the lights of the catwalk.

She turned to INIKA Organic's collection. The vegan makeup doubles up as skincare, and is packed with clean makeup ingredients like shea butter to nourish and hydrate the models’ skin. And with Jonathan’s commitment to conscious consumerism and the environment, INIKA Organic's eco-friendly range was a natural choice.

These were the products Grace used to create the NYFW look.

Base

For a flawless base, Grace used the Certified Organic Liquid Foundation with Hyaluronic Acid, and covered any imperfections or blemishes with the creamy Certified Organic Perfection Concealer. To set the makeup and ensure the models’ skin appeared glowy but not oily, she finished with a dusting of the Baked Mineral Foundation.

Cheeks

To contour the face and add a flush of sunkissed colour, Grace applied the Baked Mineral Bronzer around the hairline, and under the cheekbones and jaw. She then patted the multi-tasking Certified Organic Lip and Cheek Cream on the apples of the cheeks, and dabbed the Phyto-Active Rosehip Oil Blend and Certified Organic Cream Illuminisor in Gold and Spice to the upper cheekbones and browbone.

Brows

Grace began by grooming and brushing the brows using the Brow Perfector. She then achieved the perfect colour with the help of the Brow Define Palette, and filled in any gaps with the Certified Organic Brow Pencil.

Eyes

The Jonathan Cohen NYFW was all about eye-popping colour on the lids. Grace applied the long-lasting and crease-proof Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow in Platinum and Purple, and accentuated the eyes even more with a coat of The Mascara - Certified Organic in Black.

Lips

For hydrated, plump lips, Grace swiped on the Certified Organic Lip Balm before applying the Certified Organic Vegan Lipstick in Orchid Fields to the inner lips only.
